Jessi’s expression softened and she said, “Don’t worry about it. And I’m sorry. I’m just a little jumpy today. But for the record, you startled me, and please, don’t ever do that again. For your sake and mine Perhaps someday you’ll see what I can do if I need to.
Jim took a step back.
Jessi held up her hands. “No, not to you. Now I’m sorry. I’m not threatening you, I was just saying that someday I’ll show you some moves that I learned when getting my black belt.”
“Wait, so you’re a black belt? That’s really impressive. I just thought that you knew a little martial arts. So you studied for like, what, a year or so?”
Jessi looked at Erin, who was shaking her head in disbelief. Jessi turned back to Jim and gently said, “I studied for seven years in order to get my black belt, Jim. I’m actually higher than that because I studied longer than the seven years required to get my black belt.”
