The routine was normal but she thought it was odd when her phone rang. She always thought of her phone as more of a paperweight on her desk. If anyone wanted to communicate with her, they would Email and occasionally drop by her office or text. No one ever used the phone anymore. She picked up the receiver. “This is Jessi.”
The voice on the other end of the phone was distorted and unrecognizable. It was much like those disguised voices you hear on the television cop shows. She wondered who was pranking her when the voice said, “Yes. I know.”
But the tone of the voice was serious and she found it a little unsettling. “Who’s this?” she asked, expecting it to be someone from the next office.
“It’s a beautiful day, don’t you think?” the voice asked. “Too bad you’re stuck inside. I know how much you enjoy the sunshine. Don’t you hate it when you’re inside of a building and can’t get out? I bet that enclosed places make you feel uncomfortable…”
