“Sorry, sir,” Barry spoke up. “My girlfriend and I have some information about a possible murder.”
O’Malley leaned forward. “You have just used two words in the same sentence that I don’t like to hear, Barry. Do you know what those two words are?”
Barry shook his head.
“Those two words, Barry, are ‘possible’ and ‘murder’. Murder is not a nice word around here, and it concerns us a great deal. So please tell me what you know about this.”
Again silence filled the room. O’Malley looked back and forth between the two of them. Finally, his eyes rested on Erin and he said in a louder and not so nice voice, “Well?”
