The girls left the bathroom and walked back to the table. They could see that the men were discussing something in low voices, and when the girls approached the table, the talking stopped completely. The boys didn’t look up at the girls, nor did they look at each other. Instead, they suddenly found great interest in the plain white tablecloth directly under their elbows. Jessi and Erin sat down and the waiter approached the table.
“Are you ready to order or did you need a little more time?” the waiter asked.
“I think we’re going to need some more time,” Barry said abruptly.
“I’ll come back,” the waiter sniffed and walked off.
Once again, the table fell silent. Jessi and Erin looked at each other, both wondering what was going on.
“So,” Jessi said, “what’s going on?”
Barry looked at Erin. “So why haven’t I known about this?”
