The room was intensely quiet for the first ten seconds. Barry looked at Erin, who looked back at him, each one waiting for the other to say something.
Finally, O’Malley let out a big sigh. “Look, folks, I really don’t have all day to sit here with you two and play googly eyes. If the two of you are mad at each other and just need someone to talk with, counseling is the next block over. If you’re here to talk about the details of a crime, I’m the man to talk to right now. And I do mean, right now. If you haven’t noticed, I have a great deal of work on my desk that I have to finish up, and I would love for that to happen sometime before midnight. So, Is there something you want to say or are you leaving?”
