Barry had always been slightly paranoid when it came to the police. He wasn’t sure why, but still, the paranoia was there. He didn’t feel comfortable walking through the second set of doors. He looked around and had the feeling that the police officers in the lobby were looking at him. He was afraid that for some random and unknown reason, he was going to be arrested, questioned and then put in jail and never see the light of day again. Logically of course, he knew that wasn’t going to happen, or at least he hoped that it wouldn’t.
They walked across the almost empty lobby to a high desk that sat across from the door. Two uniformed officers sat behind the desk at either end. Barry motioned for Erin to stay back. “I’ll go up and talk to them and see what we need to do,” he said.
