Erin was on the other end of the phone sounding frantic. “Jess,” she said, “I was supposed to meet Barry at his apartment this morning. We talked about this extensively last night. I reminded him when he dropped me off at my place. You know how he can be forgetful sometimes. Well, before he left, he said that he had to head over to his office and work for a few more hours. I reminded him again of this morning, and he promised me that he would be ready, but when I got over to his apartment this morning, he wasn’t there.”
“Have you tried calling his cell?”
“I have tried calling his cell, and it’s either off or dead because it goes straight to voicemail. Then I called his work and they said he wasn’t there, so I don’t know what else to do.”
“Wow! That’s crazy. I hope he’s okay. Is there anything that we can do to help?”
“I just don’t know,” Erin said. “I know that we have a lot to do today and I know that you need my help today.”
Did you want to meet up with Jim and me?” Jessi asked.
“I want to help with this, Jess, but I’m worried sick about Barry. I think I’m just going to keep trying to find him for a while. I want to make sure that he’s safe before I kill him for worrying me like this. I’ll keep looking for another hour, but I promise to keep you posted.”
