“Jessi.” Her mother said louder.
Jessi jumped at the sound of her name and looked up. Her dad and mom were looking at her. Mom was concerned and dad was smiling, although the smile was a weak one.
“What? I’m okay,” Jessi said, “Just thinking about the accident. Horrible thing. I can’t even imagine.”
“Do you know who was involved?” her mother asked. “Did you hear something about it from your friends? I know how fast news travels these days with all of your texting and such.”
“Hear something?” Jessi said. “Um, well, it’s just that…”
“Honey, what is it?” her mom asked, sitting down at the table.
“Um, now please don’t think this is weird or anything, and mom, don’t get all upset, but, well, it’s just that, I heard the accident happen the day before it happened.”
