The two friends hugged and Erin slowly made her way out of the hospital room. Jessi laid back and closed her eyes. She could hear people running by her room door. She could hear doctors yelling and doors slamming. She pressed the call button and was surprised when the nurse came in immediately.
“What can I get you, Jess?” the nurse asked.
“Could I get a couple of Advil please?” she asked.
“Of course,” the nurse said, and turned to get the medication.
“What’s going on?” Jessi asked. “Out in the hall, I mean.”
The nurse turned around and said, “Nothing. It’s pretty quiet today. Why do you ask?”
“Nothing,” Jessi said, somewhat confused. “I must have fallen asleep. I thought for sure that I heard people running by and people yelling.”
The nurse laughed. “When we fall into a light sleep, sounds can become magnified and things are exaggerated. Everything is fine. I’ll get your Advil and be right back.” The nurse smiled and left the room. Jessi closed her eyes and wondered.
