Across town Doug had just finished working. He loaded all of his equipment into the car and climbed into the driver’s seat. It was about 7:30. He took out his phone and took it off of silent and noticed that he had several texts and a missed call from Carla. He opened the texts and immediately became upset. The texts were from Carla. The first one read, “Family emergency. Please call as soon as you get this!’ The next read, “Really need you to call right away!” Doug was panicked since they still only had the one car and he was afraid that something had happened to one of the kids at home and without a car, Carla was stranded. He pressed the button to call home, started the car and began driving. Carla answered right away.
“What’s going on?” Doug asked.
“The police called,” she said out of breath. “They said that they’re taking Julie away from Sharon and want to bring her here. Child Protective Services are there but will be here soon. You need to come home!”
