Have you ever had a time when you wanted something to work so badly that you can't check it enough before trying it? What if you tried once, but now are attempting to try again? Would you go over all of the steps to make it work? Would you hesitate trying again? Andrew Barton thinks he knows what he's trying to do, but isn't sure. He tries and tries but doesn't quite get there. This excerpt is the prelude to his latest attempt. He doesn't know that this attempt will change his life. Lines of Force: The Weekend Adventures of Andrew Barton
Andrew checked a few more circuits and connections with the setup on the workbench. He felt like he couldn’t check them enough. Perhaps he was just putting off activating it and not wanting to flip that switch, only to face what could be another failure. Whatever it was, he finally convinced himself to try. “Andrew,” he said out loud, “if you continue to sit and do nothing, then nothing will be the end result.” He took a deep breath and made the big decision. I t was time to try again. He put on his safety goggles, cringed slightly, and flipped a switch. As before, nothing happened.
Confused and frustrated, Andrew looked at the mess in front of him. “I just checked everything. What could it be?”
