“These caves are known as the Eyes of Khadesh because of their placement along the cliff-side. What brought you to Hakai?” Gordek asked casually.
“Didn’t Permac tell you?” Linsora looked at Permac. His expression was bland. “We are traveling together, and our worlds disapprove. We’re looking for a new home.”
“No,” said Permac. “You can tell him the real reason.”
The sour candy taste increased. She hadn’t eaten any since they left the marketplace. She felt affection for Gordek—something like she had once felt for her father. Permac gazed at her, an expectant half-smile on his face.
Permac doesn’t look like that, she thought. This Gordek’s handshake was creepy. Too friendly. And the sour taste . . .
