Permac felt Linsora’s grip on his bicep, dragging him to the floor, where they lay prone. A blinding light filled the room a breath later in rapid, pulse-like flashes.
“Don’t move!” Linsora said.
“Why?” Permac’s body and mind felt like not moving was the last thing he should do. Shouldn’t they be trying to get the hell out of there?
“You want to stay alive? Don’t move!” The light pulsed for what felt like several minutes but actually only lasted for a few seconds and then stopped. Permac sensed mounting tension from the woman beside him and prepared to move.
“Not yet! Stay relaxed. The flashing will start again,” Linsora whispered. “Whatever isn’t in the same location during each flash—meaning, whatever is moving—will be hit with an energy beam. This is a security system. Fairly standard in old Khizaran installations like this.”
