This building was different. The outer wall was smooth and metallic. The building itself appeared to be a large circular structure. He rapped on the exterior wall and walked entirely around the outside of the building. He passed what seemed to be a slightly opened back door and ventured inside. Following the curve of the interior, the loop took him back to the front door, and to his surprise, nothing stirred, creaked, or fell.
He paused, brows furrowed. How strange that the building had no windows—just two doors. The one he had entered through—which he suspected was the back door—was half open, and the other was slightly ajar on the far side. He reached for the control on his belt that activated the bright light on the chest of his jacket and moved deeper inside.
The interior was one large room with what looked like workstations comprised of evenly spaced, waist-high cubes. Broken machinery littered the floor. Bits of metal and glass crunched under his boots as he toured the room’s perimeter.
