“You’re the one I thought was Permac, right?” Linsora rubbed her wrists while Ralain untied Permac.
“Yes,” Ralain said, “and I’m so sorry. I didn’t want to deceive you, but no one gave me a choice.” The man shot a scathing look at Gordek, who brushed it off. Linsora noted the interesting dynamic.
“It was an unfortunate means of introduction,” Gordek said. “Karak would not allow us to talk to you. If I had tried to arrange a meeting with you openly, he and his people would have known about it and prevented it. I intended only to get Karak and Tayla out of the way long enough to meet with you, but Permac here surprised us last night. We could only take three; the suns were up when we secured them. We had to get you here quietly and make sure you didn’t wander off while we made some . . . arrangements.”
