Mayra was quiet at first as she sat down across from her guests. Finally, with a heavy sigh, she said, “You might have wondered where my mate is. It’s not something I like to bring up and certainly not something I would normally discuss with strangers, but it seems appropriate that you should know.” She was quiet again and looked down, deep in thought.
“Mayra? Are you okay? You don’t have to tell us anything if you don’t want,” Linsora said.
“I must say these things, and you must hear them. Two years ago, Yoran, my mate, was well respected and on his way to securing a major seat on our city council.” She looked out through the slightly transparent wall toward Karak’s house.
