She counted: ten small brown pieces, eight large brown pieces; she entered the data into the console, twelve small bright blue, six large. It became a rote activity. The glittering bags on the counter top grew. She had cataloged three packets of green shards before she noticed the oddity.
“They all have one!” She ripped open the sealed packets and called to her lab assistant. “Denub, come and look at this!”
The short, round woman ambled to Linsora’s workstation. A broad grin crossed her face. Denub liked to think of herself as a collector of people and information. She had never worked with a Khizaran and, after some initial fear, had grown to like the energy surrounding Linsora. The Khizaran woman launched herself into work with the fervor of a warrior going into battle. More than once Denub had to remind Linsora to sleep, although the slender Khizaran never seemed to miss a meal.
