Permac thought Karak blinked a few too many times, hesitated a bit too long before his next cordial word. Permac knew it was well beyond the courtesy of a visitor to check your host’s emotions, but he thought he felt a great deal of surprise. Surprise at what, though? He thought.
He felt a familiar prickling in his head. This Karak obviously didn’t live by the same code of courtesy Permac had learned. He wished he had been trained to shield his emotions.
A small boy suddenly emerged from the next house carrying a tray. He peered curiously at the newcomers. Karak recovered his composure and smiled. The boy probably volunteered for this duty just so he could boast to his friends that he had seen the strangers first.
