A warm breeze blew the curtains into the room. Linsora pushed them away and sat up with a groan. Too many Khizaran ales and too much on her mind. She punched in an order for tea and food, then stood gazing out of the window, admiring her home.
Khizara’s land formed an incomplete ring around the center of the planet, making all of it tropical to semi-tropical. Lush vegetation ran right up to the emerald colored seas. Kral had told her, well he had told her many things, but she remembered he said her eyes were the color of the sea.
Kral. She hadn’t really thought about him for years. He was Yokosh’s friend. And he was more than that. She had nearly Sealed the Oath with him. And she had served on his ship. But his bonds to Yokosh were stronger than any he had to her. No, his ambition was more powerful than any affection he might feel toward anyone.
When the door chime sounded, Linsora jumped. She tried to sense who was there, but her head only ached more. With one hand on a knife, she opened the door with the other. The waiter was probably used to this sort of greeting and only grunted when she took his card and entered the amount of his tip. She remained by the door as he placed the tray on the table. As she closed it behind him, her headache stopped. She was about to open the door to see who he was, but it didn’t matter. They would be everywhere. She only regretted that her tip had been so generous.
