Linsora slung her bag over her shoulder. It was light but filled with enough. She could pick up whatever else she needed along the way. Along the way to where, she had no idea. Just getting away from here was enough. Looking at the others in the group she joined, she thought they were all in the same position. Many of them had the vacant look of waiting for the next minute to happen without caring what the next hour might bring.
When Permac joined her, he whispered, “He’ll probably figure out he managed to end up with a Tokorellan and a Khizaran on his ship at some point, but we’ll be away from Carratia by then.”
They waited in silence until Haavens began the next crew process.
“Anselm ... no, it's Linsora, right?” he said, not looking up to see her nod. “Science Department. You want your own quarters, or with the engineer?” He gestured toward Permac.
“WHAT!” Linsora roared, rousing everyone in the room from whatever reverie they had been enjoying. “Did HE suggest that? The quarters I want are as far from his as possible.” Then she added, standing at attention, “Sir.”
