“Why are you so bothered about my knives?”
Permac raised an eyebrow, “Because they’re dangerous. Isn’t that enough?”
“Exactly enough! Every Khizaran knows that every other Khizaran is armed. We’re taught to use knives all our lives. It’s part of our culture. Look at this place. If I’m a big strong guy, I can threaten a smaller guy out of his wages, or just push him out of a long line. On Khizara, if I’m a big strong guy, I know that any skinny girl is probably just as skilled with a knife as I am. Probably more so.”
“Why not guns, then? Why knives?”
“Proximity,” she said. “Knives are personal; they make you think about what you’re doing with them. You can’t accidentally mow down ten people with a knife, can you? Just one person at a time.”
