Doctor Lambert opened the door as slowly and quietly as he could. Despite the effort, the slight squeaking of the rusted hinges boomed through the large cavern, echoing loudly off the cavern walls. Working two miles underground had some drawbacks. Being enclosed in a cavernous area with no escape for sound was one of those drawbacks.
Inside the expanse, water dripping from the rock ceiling echoed in the room. Lambert was motionless and trembled, but nudged by his co-workers, he took a small step away from the safety of his reinforced lab. His two colleagues stood behind him, quietly encouraging him to venture further into the room like two parents encouraging their child to approach the new classroom on the first day of school.
