He remembered the scars.
I watched this larger-than-life superhero greet the gathering kids as they arrived at the Scranton Elementary School. Humor changed things, made the ordinary less ordinary. Even for the casual observer.
I just couldn’t stand it, going to school, he said. And so after becoming a teacher, he began a one-man crusade to cure the school-phobia blues. Just because he didn’t enjoy going to school did not mean the students he worked with had to hate it, too. He promised to give them all something to look forward to every day. This way, they come, forget about having to wake up so early, forget about having to eat the eggs they didn’t want … oh, and he most assuredly does what he does for the parents, too.
He delivered giggles in the morning, and they all start their days with a smile.
