The sound is all energy, urgency, and need. Before the hearing of the wings and songs, hummingbirds were to me time travelers who graced me each spring and summer without fail, just magically appearing. And then disappearing. They dictated my plantings, the lantana is for them, and I fed them. I thought I could only watch them through glass.
Now I know, though. I know their sounds and I am invited, as a special friend, to listen to their conversations. I take every opportunity to sit close enough to see them, hear what they have to say to me and to anyone who will be still and listen. If, in fact, cultivating is a process and nature is a patient and diligent teacher, I had been a bored and complacent student.
Where do you sit to learn from what is in the natural world around you?
What surprise from nature do you share with others?
