“The wolf has long been a symbol of power, loyalty, courage, strength, intelligence and familial devotion“, she stated. “Our tribe has always lived in harmony with these noble creatures, and in the past, we have summoned their strength to aid us in battle and to sharpen our senses for hunting. Now we will ask the Wolf Spirit to come to this young woman. She will need his help to ask those of his brethren to assist you in your journey for good.”
Once she said this, she lifted her hands to the heavens.
“Great Yowah! Please give us what we desire, for we are in great need! Let the spirit of Rakurr come to guide this child! We beseech thee!”
Then, she uttered the sacred language of her tribe and seemed to slip into a trance. Suddenly, the skies turned black and the wind started to whip around. Thunder roared and Uncle Heesham started to worry that they would all be caught in a terrible storm, but on the horizon, a grand sight caught their attention. A very majestic wolf stood very proud on the hilltop, looking directly at them, and began to approach.
He stepped toward Phoenix, edging closer and closer, until he was looking directly into her eyes. Uncle Heesham would have never admitted it out loud, but he was petrified and worried for Phoenix, but amazed at how she stood firm, returning the glance of the great beast. He drew in a breath and blew toward her face. Phoenix took it all in, deeply breathing in the gift the wolf was giving her. Once she did, he let out a mighty howl.
“Awoooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!”
By the time he finished his call, there were many wolves standing all around the campsite, all seeming to stand at attention for Phoenix. Then, just as he came to her, he turned and left, returning to the hilltop. The sky again turned violent, and with a startling clap of thunder, he disappeared.
Ophelia was obviously pleased, and turned to Phoenix.
“You may speak with them now child. They are waiting for your instructions.”
Phoenix didn’t need Ophelia to tell her that. She could hear them herself. They all paid their respects to her and asked what they could do to help. Phoenix told them of the Jinni who wish to harm all of humanity, and asked them to use their powers as death dealers to kill them when necessary. The wolves were in agreement as to what needed to be done and promised to be there the moment Phoenix needed their assistance. One of them asked Phoenix to look up into the trees. When she did, she was somewhat alarmed by the sight of many ravens on the branches overhead.
