They all really enjoyed the rest of the evening, forgetting about any past arguments, the color of anyone’s skin, or anyone’s permanent address. The food was delicious, as the table was spread with Casseroles, green beans, corn on the cob, tossed salad and ambrosia, with 3 different kinds of pies. Daniella looked around the room and felt a glow in her heart. This truly was the missing piece that she’d been looking for all these years. All her years in the United Arab Emirates were great, but she’d always felt like an orphan like she just appeared there from thin air.
She wondered if this happy family reunion would last for long, and how would everyone feel when it was time for her to go back to the home in the Middle East that she’d made for herself. Eventually, she’d have to tell them that it was time for her to truly go home. Would anyone visit her there? All her American friends who were married to Emirati men had enjoyed visitors like their moms, their sisters, brothers, etc., but Daniella had never had one single appearance by a family member, which left her feeling very alone from time to time.
She decided that now wasn’t the time to deal with all those fears; now was the time to enjoy the moment and be grateful for having the family all together, getting along. The laughter, the stories, the food, the iced tea, and heartfelt and loving moments swept through the air like a dove’s wings flap through the night sky, and all was well for the moment.
