“There’s this kid who I hired at Shady Meadows, and after watching a bunch of commercials about the Marines, he wants to enlist. He’s asking me for advice, words of wisdom, and such, but I had to run over here and didn’t have time to chit-chat with him. I thought maybe he could come with me tomorrow and we give him a full report on what he’s getting himself into. The kid’s got a baby already and needs to put bacon on the table, but he ain’t gonna be able to do that just working as a maintenance helper. I thought it would be cool for us to take him under our wings and let him know what the Marine Corps is all about.”
“Hell yeah, bring him over. I’d like to meet him. He needs to see what the other half of the commercial looks like. The half that they don’t advertise.” Tucker chuckled. “You know, veteran tombstones and wounded warriors haven’t gone anywhere, but sometimes it feels like we are on the dark side of the moon. Everybody likes to see the moon shining, but what folks don’t see, they don’t think about, even though it’s still there. Kind of like me; out of sight, out of mind.”
