“Now back to that ice cream soda.” She disappears behind the counter, her head in the freezer as the cold air rises around her. Elise kneels on the high, striped stool, leaning over the counter to watch Maxzyne scrape ice cream from the circular carton with her scoop. “Whew! It’s sure a lot harder than it looks.” Slamming the freezer chest closed, she uses her finger to pry the ice cream blob from the metal scoop. It drops with a small splash into the glass. Like magic, the amber soda water fizzes and bubbles, rising around the ice cream.
Elise is fascinated. “It’s noisy and growing bigger! Are you sure it’s safe to drink?”
