Maxzyne’s heart pounds, hearing the clanking gears of the elevator making its way toward them. “Seems to be working okay, now,” Gigi declares. “But if you want, I can go with you.”
“This is nothing.” Maxzyne shrugs. “My parents are going to kill me when I get home.”
“Anything I can do to help, Drama Queen?” Maxzyne looks at Gigi’s dragon tattoo, multi-colored hair, and sky-high boots. She imagines her mother’s reaction to them. It was nice of Gigi to offer, she thinks. But this is something she has to do herself. Growing up means taking responsibility.
“Um, no. But thanks, anyway. I guess I can handle it from here.”
