God does not speak in a booming voice but a whisper when speaking to us as an individual, just like the whisper Elijah heard from the mountain cliffs after running away from Jezebel. (1Kgs 19:12, KJV) “And after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; after the fire a still small voice.” The Tanakh (Torah) version has a distinct English language translation to interpret what the Scripture writer received from the Holy Spirit.
In verse 11, “And He said: Go out and stand in the mountain before the Lord, Behold! The Lord passes, and a great and strong wind splitting mountains and shattering boulders before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind, an earthquake-not in the earthquake was the Lord.”
12. “After the earthquake fire, not in the fire was the Lord, and after the fire a still small sound.”
13. “And as Elijah heard, he wrapped his face in his mantle, and he went out and stood at the entrance to the cave, and behold a voice came to him and said: What are you doing here, Elijah?”
God spoke, but it was a ‘small sound’ again, a whispered voice. The Lord is imposing, and we could never imagine or comprehend because He is SPIRIT, and HE has always been. Understanding Adonai is far-reaching; to our earthly minds, even our spiritual minds, have trouble figuring out the mysteries of the universe. Many secrets will continue until we are in heaven and meet Father God face to face. Our Spiritual mind will comprehend the awesome power of Adonai when we give the Holy Spirit a chance to communicate with us through prayer and acknowledge the Holy Spirit exists.
“But I tell you the truth; it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you. And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment (John 16:7-8, NASB).”
