A foreboding presence lurked nearby. I couldn’t say I liked the times I could sense danger. But my senses became more acute when I sensed otherworldly energy. They penetrated every fiber of my being, creating a powerful sensation.
Then, a harsh grinding and banging sound echoed in the twilight.
“Get a grip,” I spoke out loud.
“What? What was that sound?” Noah’s head jerked up, and he tilted to acknowledge my outburst.
“Nothing, sweetie. I need to email Becky. Then I’ll finish my dinner.”
“Are you positive? That sound hurt my ears.” He heard the commotion, confirming my accuracy.
I typed my last page of email notes to Becky, and the facts and figures were a welcome distraction until a loud explosion rocked our table.
“Okay, well, I’m done typing notes for the evening. The meal is delightful.” He pushed his tablet away from him and took another bite.
“You go ahead.”
“Noah, what in the world was that?”
Sweat beaded on his forehead. He raised his eyebrows in confusion and dread. “Sweetie, a hovercraft hit something. But I must admit, you are right. Something strange is happening above and near the waterfront. Look up, my love, and witness the vast expanse of the sky for yourself.”
