She put her fists on her lap and gave him a sideways glance. Did he want her to believe his story? Her security office informed her of events before arriving in Romala, but the swap of microchips for the government was new. Who was the oil company? Maybe he will admit more truths.
“Please continue.” She responded.
“They might kill me for telling you. Trust me, the less you know, the better.”
Her icy glare showed him she wanted more information. She watched him exhale and fold his arms over his chest. He sighed and continued.
“Soon, the microchip will be required for residents. A government official instructed us to comply and take the chip. Countries worldwide, including India, Africa, and Israel, follow the demand. I mention those three nations because they are the most resistant countries.”
“Jon, it’s a lie. We have cards with chips in Israel. Who was the government official, may I ask?”
“I don’t know. My assistant took the call and the voice on the cell muffled.”
“One more detail. The CIA has bugged your room to keep you safe from whoever is trying to assassinate you. The call you received tonight didn’t log. We will catch the criminals. We have a water problem, but it’s a political and microchip problem. Enough information.”
Sophia inhaled a hard breath and exhaled with a tonal sound of “ahh.” She closed her eyelids, kept them closed for several minutes, blinked, and studied his handsome face. His swooning glance caught her by surprise.
