Never assume someone's thoughts or feelings! Always make sure everyone is included. All it takes is communication.
Communication is the key, but it's difficult at times. We, as parents, must make sure our kids feel comfortable sharing and expressing their thoughts and feelings. Always make sure your kids feel at ease and safe when doing so. The monkeys and crocs do end up talking things out and sharing their feelings. The valuable lesson is to not hold things inside and to be more open with each other. Talk it out!
The monkeys and crocodiles did not communicate very well about how they felt. The crocodiles were upset with the monkeys because the monkeys always asked the crocs for help when they needed something, but the monkeys never asked them to play baseball. Well, the crocs finally communicated how they felt and the monkeys realized they weren't being very good friends to the crocs. All it took was a few words for everyone to understand each other. Then they could have fun together!
Ah, the magic of communication. Children should always feel at ease when sharing their feelings. Yes, I know! Easier said than done. BUT if you let your kiddos know that they can share their feelings and feel safe and comfortable, they will communicate more. Please don't get upset if you don’t like what they are saying. Always listen, be supportive, and love them unconditionally.
Do you see how things can get lost with no communication? The monkeys were so caught up in playing baseball and getting back to the field, they didn't realize the crocs’ feelings were hurt. The crocs should have told the monkeys how they felt. The monkeys should have realized that the crocs were helping them get the coconuts all this time and should have considered that they may want to join in as well. Communication is always best and should be taught in the home and schools. Always make a point to let your children know that they can tell you anything and feel comfortable doing so.
Holding in negative emotions can cause resentment for no reason. Communicating and sharing your feelings is completely ok and safe to do. Kids as well as adults must learn to express thoughts and feelings in order to move forward and have a better and stronger relationship.
The main premise of the book is to teach the kiddos a lesson on communication and sharing their feelings. It’s ok to open up to a friend or parent. It’s sometimes scary to share your feelings and thoughts BUT if you don’t, and you keep all those funny feelings in your head and belly, then you get upset and mad. It’s better to share and communicate than keeping the cap on the bottle. Let’s open up so all the bubbles can pop out and start talking.
The sentence is almost a “cruise control” setting for your next thought or imagination. This really does make you think a bit, hmmm. You want to read more and find out if the monkeys are able to play baseball? Are they, hmmm? Do they run into a snag? Do the monkeys need help from the crocodiles? Do the monkeys find out why the crocodiles are upset with them? This wonderful book will help your child discover that it’s ok to communicate and share his or her feelings.
