In the face of a cancer diagnosis, it’s hard not to spiral into feelings of fear and hopelessness. Let this book be your guiding light.
Let's Talk Radiation Therapy is a compassionate and informative guidebook tailored for newly diagnosed cancer patients who are anticipating radiation treatment. With empathy and expertise, radiation therapist Margeaux Gregory presents a different approach to cancer treatment.
Harnessing her 15+ years of experience, Margeaux’s new book aims to:
● Demystify the technical aspects involved in undergoing radiation treatment.
● Clarify clinical goals for a more positive patient experience.
● Provide tips and tricks for managing anxieties and side effects.
Beyond addressing the clinical process, Margeaux acknowledges the emotional challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis and subsequent treatment. Throughout the book, she creates a narrative for mindfulness to help readers digest the information and see radiation as a tool that supports natural processes in their body to help them heal.
Let's Talk Radiation Therapy is more than just a book; it's a lifeline for those seeking reassurance and guidance during a trying time. Margeaux Gregory offers knowledge and understanding about radiation therapy so that your path to healing becomes a source of empowerment rather than an added burden to the weight of a cancer diagnosis.
I am someone who values approaching problems head on so I can figure out the answers or come up with a solution. While facing challenges can feel intimidating, it usually results in understanding. This understanding is so important because it provides head and heart alignment, which then allows for peace of mind to follow. Ultimately, this peace of mind to me, is always worth working towards. This is my approach when it comes to helping others learn about the intricacies of cancer treatment. Facing your diagnosis and the complexities of cancer treatment can absolutely feel intimidating, but more often than not, once you do, you feel more in control emotionally, physically, and mentally. You then create a powerful environment within yourself for healing! Starting this process with self-generated strength is invaluable. I am passionate about helping others approach cancer treatment this way!
In honor of September being Childhood Cancer Awareness month, I would like to share this excerpt about the power of authentic mentorship. This moment not only impacted me as a caregiver, but also as a human being. A true display of the mountains kindness, bravery, and mentorship can move- shown by a child no less. I'll never forget it.
This is one of my favorite things to talk about in the radiation treatment space! Misinterpreting or misunderstanding fatigue can have a really negative impact on your mental health during treatment. This can cause discouragement, confusion and fear when you don't understand it. One of my goals is to help people understand more about fatigue- its cause and why you sometimes feel SO exhausted. This way, you can make sense of what is happening in your body, reinforce this truth in your brain, not be so afraid of it, and be able to hold a powerful space within yourself for healing.
When anticipating a medical appointment, often your mind can race with all of the questions you want to ask, but how often do we actually ask them when it's time to meet with the professionals? When you walk into that office, it is not uncommon to suddenly feel overwhelmed, sidetracked, to forget the questions you had, not want to "bother" the doctor with your concerns, you figure it might just work itself out, etc. What a disservice you do to yourself when you sit and let these unanswered questions swirl about in your mind. Don't let unasked or unanswered questions rob you of your peace of mind! It is far too valuable, especially when navigating cancer treatment.
Without having any prior knowledge about the world of oncology, it can feel really overwhelming when you start your research upon a new cancer diagnosis. Too often I have seen people set their expectations for treatment based on their own research before they meet with the oncology professionals, and they were really disappointed to find that their oncologist suggested treatment that differed from their research. Watching people begin their treatment from a place of confusion and disappointment made me realize this needs to be talked about more, and that people need some direction at this stage of their diagnosis. I want to be really clear that it is not your responsibility to find the perfect treatment- leave that to your oncology team because that is their job! Put the weight of that responsibility onto the professional's shoulders- right where it should be. You do not need to carry that worry. Find peace in knowing that the research is being done for you. Taking this stress off of your mind also takes it out of your body and allows you to create a powerful environment for healing.
In honor of National Cancer Survivor Month, I wanted to share this excerpt with you where I discuss my experience with a patient who finished her treatment. This concept might feel snide or callous to hear when you're in the beginning stages of undergoing treatment because the unknown can feel so daunting. However, I would be remiss if I didn't mention this part of the cancer treatment process. I wanted to encourage people to think about what you want your life to look like after you've completed treatment. Cancer can change you, there's no doubt about it. It's impact is powerful. Take your control back by using its impact to steer yourself in a direction that brings you happiness, fulfillment and peace.
If you are the type of person who seeks out information because you know it makes you stronger and wiser, then this book is for you! I wrote this book to give you knowledge about navigating a cancer diagnosis and radiation treatment so that you can apply this information to your own circumstances. Having this knowledge will allow you to move forward in this process feeling confident, informed, and prepared. When you can proceed in this manner, peace of mind is established, and this concept is exactly what motivated me to write this book! Don't shy away from this topic because it scares or intimidates you, let me walk you through this- let's talk radiation therapy.
