Literature & Fiction

Join Melie, HR manager, on her desperate search for solutions to the messes boiling over in Axis Mundi Medical Center. You will laugh but is it funny to her? Why can’t those buttock-groping doctors and their flaky staff just get along? As she tries to seize control, and incidentally get a life, she runs into a little murder here, a cancer there, a mystery man, rivals that are not always human, like Gladys, the first parrot-woman gladiator. She won’t quit until she has it all—the hunk, the macaw, her life work—and neither will you!

creeping paranoia

Melie is finally reaching the end of her rope. Impossible, you say. Her job, her raison d'etre, is to keep the lid on all the issues boiling over at Axis Mundi Medical Center. That's what they're paying her for. Time for her to stop messing around! If she's not the voice of reason, who is? Who can step up to take over in this last worst crisis of crises?

Maybe Melie should be replaced

Melie must have the worst case in the world of burn-out. Clearly she's no longer thinking clearly. But she retains her sense of humor. She's at the end of her rope. The Meltdown looms. Who knows what form it will take?!

Melie's singing debut Part II

The doc goes down to HR, He gives them a talking-to, “I want her out and that is that, Just tell me what to do.” Mel’s at her post and comatose, It’s been a day and a half, When doc starts to talk about kidneys and such, All she can do is laugh. Let me say a word about MC* Why beat around the bush? It’s part madness and pure lunacy, Some days you just pinch yourself in the tush! The doc by Mel was put on track He thanked her so profusely, Patting her cheek and eying her chest, And planning to treat her loosely. “Your ass, I’ll haul in court, you dud, If you so much as touch me If you wanna be able to use that degree, You better say you’re sorry!”

Melie's singing debut

Melie's on the way to cracking up. To perform this silly song in front of Merry Terry (her boss), she with no sense of humor, shows how far gone she is. I wonder how many of us have committed some mild self-sabotage like this in the course of our careers. Would love to hear about it and feature it on my website: www.janetgarber.com Here's hoping your work week next week is a tolerable one.

Ye Olde Antique Shoppe

Melie's out of her comfort zone! She's actually left NYC and gone searching for the man she casually met one afternoon in an upstate store. He's someone maybe as lonely as Melie herself. Changing her life requires big steps not baby steps. Is this up to the task?

Will doctors never learn?

Do they want to? They may have wowed the scientific community with their research, their innovations, their surgical skills. But some of them can't figure out the simple tasks of keeping their distance, respecting their staff and their patients, listening when some one says "no." Society has put them and certain athletes and celebrities on a pedestal. They feel they deserve to operate outside of the normal course of events; sometimes they lose touch with obvious social graces and consideration for others. Just some doctors, not all by any means.

Desperation City

Poor Melie. This is what she did in high school: stare at some guy the whole term and fantasize about him. She hasn't progressed much. At least his time, she took a chance - well the chance fell literally right into her lap, or should I say she fell into his lap? Did she give him enough of a chance? Why was she attracted to him anyway? How superficial of her. Just because he was a gorgeous hunk of manhood, dressed to the nines, with a cute cute ponytail. Ahh...
