Enigma Tracer kicks off a new and exciting series by Breakfield and Burkey. Gracie, the heir apparent to R-Group, has taken up a case brought to her by her former college roommate, Bailey Smith. Gracie and Bailey, along with their current beaus, Jeff and Keith, go undercover to embark upon a cruise to gather intel on Philip Pliant, the predatory CEO of Pliant Industries. Using their wits and charm, along with a captivating cast of supporting characters from the Cyber Assassin Technology Services (CATS), the foursome engages in a treacherous cat-and-mouse investigation.

Authors Breakfield and Burkey do a fantastic job laying the groundwork in the opening chapters, establishing the characters and their backgrounds. Gracie and Bailey are quite likable, and their chemistry is palpable. I appreciate that they're not two Mary Sues, as Gracie has impulse control and anger issues, and Bailey seems to struggle with alcohol. Jeff and Keith are well-fleshed out as capable companions who are also a little jealous of their better halves' undercover positions.

Once the story gets going, Enigma Tracer is an exciting read. The dialogue between characters does a lot of heavy lifting for the exposition. The operatives discuss their dates and socialize while on their actual mission. This adds a fun layer to the story and shows that the next generation of R-Group is still young and inexperienced.

Enigma Tracer is highly recommended to fans of technothrillers, and fast-moving plots, and is a must-read for longtime fans of the authors. Dramatic, high-tech action fills the pages of this gripping story. I highly recommend readers experience the sharp writing and enthralling plot that Breakfield and Burkey bring to their series.

Gracie is the leader of the RGroup team, and JJ is the lead of the CATS team for cyber-attack support to customers. Gracie and JJ are now on a dangerous mission. Gracie's friend, Bailey, asks them to join her for one week aboard a Monarch cruise to gather information about Phillip Pliant, the CEO of Pliant Industries. The Pliant CEO is known as an intelligent and valuable person, but Bailey's team thinks he's a dangerous ecological gangster. He was investigated before, and many mysteriously vanished after they had crossed him. Thus, they must follow their plan to build a case against Pliant without any failures; otherwise, they will all be in great danger. Enigma Tracer:

Enigma Heirs is a complex, multilayered, perfectly plotted technothriller. It is a deft blend of intrigue, romance, and mystery. Breakfield and Burkey create complex, fascinating heroes and ruthless villains trapped in a place without escape. I loved that the story focuses on the characters' growing abilities to face significant threats and use technology for a good cause. This outstanding fast-paced thriller is filled with high-stakes tension. It's a knockout of a story that effectively combines investigation with unexpected danger and high-tech, nail-biting action. Gracie Rodreguiz has finished graduate school and is working full-time for the World Bank, using it as a cover to manage R-Group resources around the world. Her graduate school roommate was Bailey, who asks Gracie and her team to help with a problem. The R-Group chooses to investigate by sending Gracie and Bailey as well as Jeff and Keith (their significant others) on a cruise with Phillip Pliant, the CEO of Pliant Industries. It appears that Pliant is recycling plastic illegally, manufacturing single-use guns, and trafficking youngsters; however, those who investigate him are either missing or dead. Pliant is dangerous and they all know it. With the help of her twin, JJ, Gracie and her team learn more than they want to know about Pliant Industries. This case tests the skills and grit of everyone involved!

There are multiple players and locations to track within this story, yet it is written in an engaging style. This story flows beautifully! The plot involves themes that are happening now all over the world, making it relevant and credible. The pace is fast, as pieces of the 'puzzle' are found throughout and the tension ramps up as the story progresses. Expect challenges, danger, and technology throughout the telling, peppered with some laughter and tears. The leadership mantle of the R-Group is now in the hands of the next generation, and Gracie and JJ and their team have been trained well. There are moments of doubt, overconfidence, and introspection, yet these flaws add depth and realism to this story. Breakfield and Burkey are still at the top of their game with this latest installment in the CATS/R-Group techno-thriller world!

Though most people see them as typical young, successful professionals, Gracie Rodreguiz secretly works in a deadlier trade: she covertly assists clients around the world facing cyber threats from the "Darknet." Gracie's new assignment? To uncover the true intentions of the CEO of a plastics company who happens to be a thief—and who, in serving his cartel-based clients, poses a threat to not only the manufacturing infrastructure in the Caribbean, but beyond.

There is a promising series premise here, with a compelling villain and clever scenes of planning and executing an investigation, as this brisk, short novel moves between genres—thriller, romance, contemporary fiction. The authors blend tension and froth as Gracie and Bailey, working in their undercover life with their boyfriends, are portrayed as savvy, skilled covert ops who are committed to taking down the bad guys but also impulsive "girls" (the narrator's word) who need to be saved by the men in their lives. The mix at times is unstable, though. The plot calls for Gracie and Bailey to take advantage of men's presumption that they're silly and non-threatening, a fresh and fun twist, but Enigma Tracer doesn't often allow these accomplished women to command these scenes as they take down their target.


More background material on the family and how this business came to be could have deepened reader engagement. Scenes of cutting-edge tech, surveillance, drone flights, and clever problem solving are contrasted with Gracie and Bailey blow-drying hair, picking out their outfits for their meeting with the villain, and—in a vital, revealing scene—telling off Gracie's brother, JJ, who also runs a cyber security org. The blend of genres and tones is tricky but audacious.

    Enigma Tracer: Enigma Heirs-Book 1 by Charles Breakfield and Rox Burkey is a mystery book about a young lady and her crew who embark on a journey to uncover the truth behind the wicked schemes of a wealthy businessman. Gracie and Bailey are best friends and were roommates during their last years in graduate school. Later on, they separated as they were now occupied with their jobs. They still kept in touch and called one another even during work hours. One day, Bailey called Gracie about a problem involving the CEO of Pliant, who she suggested is an ecological gangster. In a plan to track down this man and find out what he is up to, the two ladies, along with their boyfriends and Gracie's twin brother, devised a way to trap Phillip Pliant. Do you think their plan would work out?

    Opinion:
    Considering the book was captivating, I will spotlight some parts that stood out to me in the book. The book begins with a prologue that explains Gracie and her best friend's preparation for a presentation. Gracie's close friendship with her roommate seems to have started when Gracie began attending graduate school. After the graduation, Gracie felt a bit of regret, knowing full well that they would soon return to their various homes. After their separation, they still contacted one another and even worked together. The ladies made efforts to solidify their friendship by constant communication, which I view as precious. Furthermore, cooperation is one value I came to appreciate while reading, Gracie and Bailey, her best friend, together with their boyfriends, Jeff and Keith, worked together including JJ, Gracie's twin brother. Their main focus was the goal of catching the culprit using a strategy. This undeniably added more to the already captivating story. Lastly, the plot stands as the foundation of the book. With it engrossing narrative, it proved to be a unique tale. It highlighted the tactics that were planned as a bait for Phillip Pliant and also various technology which was provided by JJ to sabotage Phillip's plan. Apart from all this, it also describes the romantic relationship between Gracie and Jeff, which made the whole plot a satisfying one.

    The Enigma Tracer series that is the heirs, takes off introducing new characters and a high tech plot. The characters are interesting and likable. With a fast moving story the reader is left anticipating the next novels in the heirs series. katie maloy
