“Crush is my absolute favorite book that Lacey has written to date. She has weaved into the pages betrayal, deception, obsession, love, secrets, suspense, drama, twist and turns around every corner. I was really immersed into the storyline like I was back in high school and going through the same trials and tribulations that these characters are going through. This is not your typical high school crush book—it is a coming of age book that mixes jealousy, drug use, conformity, and love. I highly recommend purchasing this book!” Mommy Reads Too Much - 5 Stars

- Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2013I'm giving this book a 4.75 stars, but more likely a 5 :)
I was instantly hooked on this book. I loved how it was the bad-ass falling, man-candy, "I have sex with everyone" falling for the gorgeous nerd. It was sweet and lovely. Which felt very typical. But, there were some deep, possibly dark secrets behind Hunter that just made you want to keep reading to find out what he was really hiding.
I'll tell you, you could see there was an instant connection between Cami and Hunter. It was sweet. It nearly killed Hunter to not share his secrets, but he felt he couldn't; it wasn't the right time. I was just like TELL HER COME ON! She's trustworthy.
Cami, sweet and innocent, had a REALLY ANNOYING best friend Clay. He just drove me up the wall. It was as if he thought he OWNED Cami and she couldn't date anyone. It really pissed me off. I wanted him to go fall off a cliff or something. Yet Cami, being as he was the BFF since they were 5, didn't seem to get it.
Throughout the story, you see the relationship build, you see Clay getting weird, Cami demanding answers, a few small fights here and there, but it was over all pretty sweet. I hated not knowing the secrets and I truly felt for Cami. It drove me crazy!
You don't find out the secrets until almost the end when the twist happens. You find out Hunter's secret, Clay's secret, and a few other secrets. It gets INTENSE. My jaw DROPPED. I was like, no... that can't be... REALLY?! OMG I LOVE IT. It was great. I was shocked when I read the twist, I read it like two times to make sure I read it correctly. Then, I continued on and it just got more and more intense! I wanted to yell at my kindle; NO YOU CAN'T DO THIS!! NOOOO!!
The twist was killer. I thought it was going to end on that bad note. I was rather upset that it felt like it was ending and all that was left was... well.... ;) stuff! But, to all my happy ending fans, it does end lovely. Things come into perspective. You see why Hunter wouldn't share his story. You understand all the sexual tension. You gain a grasp of who Hunter is and why you were right in falling in love with him, even as a bad boy :)
I would definitely say it's worth reading. Didn't take me long. Sweet, full of love, drama, and sexual tension. :) Mark as another to-read my friends! The bad-asses are taking over; even if the bad-ass is a cover *wink* (yes, that's supposed to be a SLIGHT spoiler to get you to go read the book!)
- Reviewed in the United States on July 1, 2013I can't say how much I enjoyed reading the start of this series. I have no idea how many books are supposed to be involved in this, but the first one was certainly a hit with this picky reader.
Summary:
Cami Wimberley is a senior in high school flying under the radar, enjoying her time with her best friend Clay. She's oblivious to her charms and is shocked when the new kid in town, Hunter Wilder, starts taking a keen interest in her. She's barely used to dating regular guys, let alone guys with super-model looks that Hunter possesses. The two start spending more and more time together, even though Hunter knows he shouldn't, and the chemistry between them is combustible. Still, with a secret hanging over his head, Hunter tries to keep Cami at arms' length. But when the danger surrounding his world escalates, their relationship is put to the test.
(This will contain spoilers -- read at your own risk)
Cons:
Predictability -- There was little surprise element to the story. The twist involving Hunter's background and the bad-guy reveal was a little underwhelming. I called Hunter's true background very early on in the game and was kind of disappointed that I was right. The "villain" was also anticlimactic.
The ending -- After the twist is revealed, I'm not really impressed with how easy everything was for Cami and Hunter. Granted, there was a lot of time spent apart, but with as much build-up as there was, it was like ... so what was all the fuss about for Hunter? He was so worried about everything and Cami was upset with him for all of two minutes.
First Person POV -- A pet peeve of mine is when authors use first person and have multiple points of view. Yes, there were only two in this story (Hunter and Cami), but my feeling is that if you're going to switch, it needs to be in third person. I think this type of story would have worked better in that element and perhaps created more mystery. Also, the believability of Hunter's voice wasn't always spot-on in the first person setting.
Cami's singing -- This felt like it came a little out of nowhere. I was well-into the story before it's even mentioned that Cami is a huge music buff, let alone can sing. I was thrown for a loop a little bit in this aspect. For something that is such a huge part of her life, this can be introduced a little earlier on in the story. It felt like she needed Cami to have a hobby and decided this would fit the bill, so surprise! She's a singer now.
Chris and Hunter -- I would have liked to have seen more on this relationship. I felt that Hunter had a stronger relationship with Russ moreso than Chris. We're told multiple times that he and Chris have a strong relationship, but I didn't always get that impression. This could have used a little stronger development. Granted, given the circumstances, I can understand why she didn't use Chris as much, but still. Just sayin'.
Clay -- CREEPER! Enough said.
Overall, I think that suspense and stealth are not really this author's strong suit, but it was still enjoyable to read, nonetheless.
Pros:
Hunter and Cami -- Their relationship is totally adorable! I was sucked into their world from the word go. I found myself smiling at certain scenes and sometimes outright laughing. I loved how at-ease she made these two with each other and that she had Cami realize pretty early on that she needed to know more about Hunter other than the fact that he was a good kisser.
Chemistry -- Not too often do I find a book where the two leads have a relationship that flows as easily as these two did. It was so enjoyable to read and I couldn't help but cheer them on.
Fidelity -- I was so thrilled when he kept refusing Gabby at every turn, even when she was all-but grinding against him. He was stoned out of his mind, but still knew who he wanted and when he realized that it wasn't Cami on him, he shoved the girl right off of him and onto the floor.
Parents -- So often in stories like these, the parents have little to no involvement. I was glad to see that Cami's weren't completely absent and they had an active role in her life. Her dad was adorable with his overprotectiveness. The scene where he tries to tell Hunter that his daughter is going to college and Hunter says that he and Cami will likely wind up in the same town after graduation was absolutely hilarious. I could just picture him frowning and wanting to cry with his wife clapping and oohing and ahhing.
Plot -- I absolutely LOVED that she didn't go the traditional route with this and make Hunter a jerk-off toward Cami. So many times writers use this an escape route when the male lead needs to stay away from the love interest and often times, the jerkiness is laid on so thick that it's hard to bounce back to likeability status. He knew he needed to stay away from Cami, but at the same time, he also knew that he was completely sunk and didn't try to resist it. He rolled with it and accepted his fate and made the best of it.
Russ -- Bromance. Can't say much more than that.
I can't really say how much I enjoyed this story. I've already purchased the next book in the series and can't wait to see how it turns out!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2013My God!!!! How I LOVED this book. I am a huge sucker for a good YA book! And boy did I feel this. I seriously had NO clue that it would turn out the way it did. I really thought he was a Bad Boy and I really thought something else of him. I never imagined what he would come to be!!!!!! This book had such emotion! I think I have found a new Book Boyfriend!!! Make way ladies Hunter Wilder is coming through!!!!!
I Loved the strong side of Cami instantly, she knew what she was and had not a care in the world what others thought about her! She was proud of who she was! A little inexperienced, and shy with boys, but when she knew what she wanted she had no problem getting it!
Hunter, oh Hunter you BLOW my mind! He is the ultimate Bad Boy, he made my blood boil. I knew right off the bat he was caring and would do whatever it took to make sure Cami was comfortable in every situation. That she was well taken care of. I love guys who hold on to their "girl" with everything they have!
Now Clay is a different story. I kind of thought I had him figured out, but never thought that he would be of that magnitude. It really threw me for a loop. He was just such a creeper!
I love the story line and how it immediately captures your attention. It pulled me in and did not ever let go!!! I am so happy to hear that there will be a second book, even though I cannot even begin to think of the more that this couple can go through since it has been so much already! But I do know Cami will be going to college and then I think that just opens up sooooo much more situations they can go through. I am super excited for the next Book!!!!!!

Awesome Book! Totally worth a read

3.0 out of 5 stars Well...
Well it sure was a surprising and unexpected ending!!! Never saw this coming. Which speaks volumes about the author's talent to set a great cliffhanger.
I really liked Hunter and his attitude towards Cami. He is protective, possessive and sexy but very respectful and sweet. Cami in the other hand was a bit too naive and annoying at times. She could have had more of a backbone, specially regarding Clay and more sass or repartee. That would have made her much more fun.
As for the book itself, it was nice with interesting characters but nothing that really made it stand out in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Excellent in many ways.
4/5 STARS!!!
I was not expecting to buy crush so soon after i'v heard about it, and that was like 2 or 3 weeks ago.
But i am so freaking glad i did.
Crush is basically about a 17 year old girl, called Cami. She is very talented, gifted, beautiful, and a senior with a very good grades that has no room for boys in her future life. Not even Hunter Wilder, who is the most hottest and most popular guy in school.
Hunter Wilder does not need, nor does he want a girlfriend. His life is complicated as it is. But as soon as he looks and get's to know the beautiful 'Ms. Goody Shoes', he cannot resist the attraction and the spark that begin to fly between them. Before he knows it, he starts to care and have a crush on her. But not everything is perfect. Because Hunter is not who he seems he is. What will happen when Cami finds out his secret?
WOW!!! I loved this from the very beginning. I had a feeling that it was going to be a really good book. Crush is my first book by this fantastic author, and after finishing it, i can't wait to read more!
The characters are ok, some are likable and some are not. I'm glad that the main characters ( Cami and Hunter) are in the ' likable' category. I loved how caring Hunter was, and how sometimes, he got really jealous. I found it kind of cute.
*****
' Our eyes locked, and i felt something strong flare between us. I knew she felt it too because the desire was written in her eyes. I wanted to kiss her so badly my mouth watered in anticipation. My gaze traveled down to her glossy lips, and the tip of her tongue darted out, licking them slightly. Her breathing increased, and i knew then she wanted me as badly as i wanted her'.
*****
Camis and Hunters relationship was very realistic. They had what i think every ' teenage' couples have. Lies. Obsession. Love. Secrets. Drama. And even thought they had all of those things, they worked and sorted them out together. I really liked that. And they also had many romantic, sweet and passionate moments that i just ADORED!
*****
' I melted easily into him once again - our homework still lying on the floor forgotten, and neither of as seemed inclined to start it again. Too bad we didn't have a class on physical anatomy together, then maybe could've passed this off as studying'.
*****
The only reason why i didn't give Crush 5 stars was because of the twists at the end. Most people would not predict them, let's say - 95 percent. But i DID predict them quiet easily. It took me till page 170 or something to figure one of the big twist ( Hunters big secret). And i knew something was up with the murder thing, and i was guessing who might have actually done it. Again, i guessed right. So yeah, the big twists at the end that were supposed to take everyone by surprise, didn't quiet manage do so for me. I'm not saying there weren't any more twists, there were, smaller ones, but still, i didn't see THEM coming.
Overall, Crush definitely is a book that i won't forget easily. A real page turner that i didn't want to put down. Truly Excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars I have a CRUSH....
