Editorial Reviews
Review
This is an amazing resource that teaches children valuable lessons with the focus specifically on the Amazon and weaves throughout important facts about life in the Amazon. The artwork contains vivid details and often depict humorous situations that give a visual to the important lessons. A variety of characters teach children facts about animal life in the Amazon from wild macaws to ants to rheas. Each tale has the clear tone of a fable such as the story of a lazy grasshopper that suffers during a fire while a group of ants that have planned for the future find safety underground.
Fables of the Amazon: Fun Lessons in Ecology by Alan J. Hesse and Louise H. Emmons touches upon specific endangered animals due to threats to their environment. The toucan is an important figure throughout as a primary character that often speaks directly to the reader to deliver the moral or lesson of the story. Among the forest facts are lessons about the humans' theft of animal land, using animals for unnecessary medicinal reasons, and various looks at ecosystems. The end of the book contains a glossary that features various animals and provides children with further insight.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2020Great comic book. Fun and educational. This is an easy read for kids. It is wonderful to see pics and character descriptions at the end that describe the animals further and relay some facts about each. Children should learn from a young age about animal life, ecology and environmental issues and concerns
