“Ok, get them to the hospital STAT.”
“On it, doctor.” As he guided the floating magnetic levitation gurneys to pick up the patients, he said, “It seems there was deformation from the de-crystallisation process,” Jasper said sadly.
Atland was already checking and scanning them. After a quick analysis, he zipped off a report to the hospital. “Respiration through central orifice is very efficient,” he commented. “In fact, all interior passages align perfectly with exterior orifices or sensory collecting features. The bony exterior protrusions protect surface-residing tympanic membranes.” He stopped recording and said, “Jasper, the asymmetry might not be deformation. On Earth, we’re used to symmetry being associated with good health, but indications are that this alien species is naturally . . . lumpy.”
Jasper paused. “That’s great news. I’m used to things like horses performing better if they’re more symmetrical. Cool that other planets have developed creatures with a different look.”
“Well, let’s move them out. We can contemplate galactic diversity later.”
Jasper came out of his reverie. “Yes, sir.” He used a remote controller to float the gurneys out single file.
