Beyond Planet Fabar’s breathable air, a tiny speck in space shone brighter than all the stars around it. The harder-than-diamond shell of a ship glowed with unnatural intensity, sparkling in the eyes of planet inhabitants who happened to observe it.
Inside Earth’s space-faring gem, a tiny sampling of its creatures focused on their miniscule goal in the great galaxy.
“There it is,” Blake Panther said from the bridge of the bright spot in space. He spun his chair to point at the 3D holographic screen in the middle of the lower bridge. From this perspective, planet Fabar shone like a rescue beacon, still small in the physical window, but now dominating the holo display.
Ambassador O’Bien rose eagerly from where she’d been stretched out on her observation divan outside of her office. The soles of her slipper-like shoes firmed up and formed raised heels that started clicking by the time she arrived in front of the holo.
“It feels a bit like we’ve arrived home,” O’Bien commented, staring into the holo.
“I was thinking the same thing,” Captain Walsh said. “I look forward to some friendly, familiar faces. I sure hope our new barian friends can help with our repairs.”
O’Bien nodded. “I was just messaging them. They’re certainly willing to try. The trade-off is, they get to see all the technology they’re helping to fix.”
Walsh nodded grimly. “Ok. We don’t have much choice, I trust these baris anyway. If they’re willing take our tech knowledge as primary payment, it’s fine with me.”
“We can send a party down in an hour. Fabarian Councillor for Interplanetary Affairs Wanva is eager to meet with me. One thing, though. I can’t get a hold of either Ramone or Scott. I hope we did the right thing leaving them down on the planet. No one Wanva contacted seems to know where Scott is. All she knows is that Ramone is on tour as a musician, and Scott should be in his lab, but isn’t.”
