“About the black-out, I should warn you that when you arrive on site, you’re likely to get an EMP blast that blocks visible light radiation.”
“Oh, yes! I almost forgot about the Tasla light killer. We’ve had a blocker for their EMP for so long we don’t even think about it anymore.”
“So you’ll have light!” Walsh said. “Can you tell us how your blocker works?”
“No, but I can bring a spare unit over and have it installed on your ship.”
“Was that a no, you don’t know how your engineers made it, or you won’t tell us?”
“No need for you to know how it works.”
“I’m sure we can reverse engineer it, anyway.” Walsh said.
Even through his office wall, and in the pitch black, Walsh could feel the glare that was in his boss’s voice as she broke into the parlay.
“Ambassador O’Bien here, from the Taslamin planet. We’re happy to accept the help you’re offering, any way you want to give it,” she said sharply. “We really appreciate your travelling all this way to assist us, Admiral Eats.”
Eats laughed. “Spoken like a diplomat. To get back to reality, if you try to break the casing on the EMP counter device, it will destroy it. Maybe take out a few people, too.”
“Understood,” Walsh said. “Our hangar bay will be ready to receive you as soon as you arrive.” He fervently hoped Arfus agreed.
