Some might cringe at a lady being told to stay protected behind an officer, but put yourself in her place. Ambassador O’Bien is a highly trained professional negotiator, mediator, and big picture overseer for science research and mission completion. She’s not trained at all in combat, except for a few civilian karate lessons once she got on board spaceship Chiron to begin a mission to find a cure for Earth. Given her training and essential skills, it would be irresponsible for her not to comply quickly with an order from her head of security. The surprise here is another lady in the party placing herself in the line of fire. She’s not thrilled about it, though. Who would be, really? It’s fun to watch or read about people in combat situations, but who in their right mind would want to risk their life and suffer pain and injury if they had a choice? In this situation, computer science head Sufra felt she didn’t have a choice. Given her own background, which she attempted to keep secret, she is stepping up to help because skills she has are needed. Like stepping back if you would be a sacrificial lamb, stepping forward can make sense too!

Shoot for Earth: MedSci Missions 3
“Ma’am, get behind me,” Woon ordered.
O’Bien did as asked, backing against the wall. She had many strengths, but fighting a troop of aliens wasn’t one of them.
“Miss Shahar, please!” Woon shouted.
The Ambassador expected Sufra to join her, but was startled by what happened next. Giving him a dirty look, the computer department head hurried over to one side of Woon, and also faced outward alertly in front of her.
“Sufra, get closer in, behind Woon,” O’Bien said.
“I’m good here, ma’am,” Sufra said politely but firmly.
“Panther, the other side of the Ambassador!” Wood called, though the linguist in the on-board military reserves was already moving there.
Panther exuded more enthusiasm than Sufra, but she exhibited no less confidence than the proven Krav Maga practitioner. Strange, O’Bien thought.
The poids surrounded the Ambassadorial protection trio.
“Stay calm!” the obvious poid leader said. “We’re here to rescue you.”
“Rescue us? Why?” O’Bien asked.
“You helped some fellow members of the Galaxy Patrol,” he said.
Except for the gems on his leather, the leader looked identical to all the other poids. O’Bien had learned to look for small differences to tell one alien face from another, but right now the gems would have to suffice. The important thing now was to discern his expressions. Pimples were pulsing rabidly showing he was tense.
“What’s your plan?” the Ambassador asked calmly.
“Follow me,” the poid said simply, and turned. The dozen poids around them had weapons in hand, though they were down or pointed towards the exits.
O’Bien looked at Woon, who nodded.
“They’re friendly now, but I don’t think ‘no’ is an option,” the S6 force head said.
O’Bien and the others followed their ‘rescuers’ with trepidation. They were relieved of all their devices and loaded into a metal cylinder. O’Bien cringed as the doors sealed shut with a hiss and a firm click. An operator pushed a button, and they were blasted forward. There were no windows, but it felt like they had hit water.
