The lady looked at her long hands, distressed. They would do no more secret experiments on this ship. Terrified of her uncertain future, she pressed a button on her Pocod that had long ago been set up with this eventuality in mind. The privateer would come, if he could. There was no way to know if he’d managed to follow Chiron close enough to received one of the massive numbers of messages she’d fired off via the poid’s LDcom to any body of matter in range that could conceivably have a receiver on it. One thing for sure was that she’d succeeded in sending them, because it had sent the poids into paranoia land. That was unfortunate and unintended. These were nice people on board. They were just stupid. Or merely misinformed, maybe. How could they not embrace using all the technology available to improve humans and keep them healthy? It was horrible how they’d treated the metasapiens who’d been accidentally mutated by Pandora, but in a viable way. The metas had had the right idea, finding their own place in the galaxy. Perhaps she could join them.
The body considered such a mysterious criminal for so long went to her closet to retrieve her solutions. She might not have a chance to use them before they spoiled, but she didn’t want to leave them behind for the scientists on board to analyse for reverse engineering. They could undo all her work! She shoved the collection into her travel bag that was half full of dehydrated food, and, ironically, a large bottle of water.
With the bag over her shoulder, she made for the auxiliary launch bay. It was less frequented. When the door slid open, she saw a tech doing checks, so quickly she scooted down the hall, turned the first corner that came up, then ducked into a washroom. She waited five minutes to go back and casually walk by the door again, close enough for it to open. A figure walked behind a machine, out of view, which meant she couldn’t be seen by them either. Quickly, she slipped into the room, removed a panel in the wall near the door, and hid inside to bide her time.
