The beta shift bridge crew unobtrusively followed the Junyo pod, keeping dust and distance between them. They figured the metas must know where the Junyo was and be heading for it. It would be crazy for the metas to just head into deep space in a little pod with no FTL capability.
Meanwhile, Walsh settled into his conformal foam couch in his luxurious quarters. He’d picked out an adventure vid called “The Day After Last Month,” he’d watched with his kids a few years ago. He missed them. A warm glow washed over him. Elissa was doing so well in her biology classes. She had thoughts of being a doctor, or medical researcher; a popular choice these days. Raymond, though…he loved that boy to bits, but he could be frustrating. He wondered how he was doing in his first-year classes. What had he chosen to take? Maybe Roed would finally get that LDL com up and running, and they could all talk to their families.
His Pocod beeped, right when he was about to press play. The bot had already delivered the popcorn, so he was admittedly dismayed to be disturbed. That all changed when he read the message. They’d found peculiar radiation next to a planet the pod had slipped behind. His astronomer curiosity was peaked.
“I’m on my way,” he said crisply.
