Exodus 20:2-3
I am the LORD your God who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
You shall have no other gods before Me.
Dear Heavenly Father
As I climb the mountain next to Moses I feel Your presence in the dense cloud. Your glory would so over-power me You must be cloaked in something my eyes can't penetrate. Prepare me for the law You designed for me to live by. Remind me these laws are imposed to protect me, not to take my happiness away. My wrists and ankles are still raw from the chafing of the shackles of my slavery. For me there's no turning back.
I no longer want the limits of the old life I once lived. I long to be impressed by Your love. As I enjoy the warmth of Your arms around me help me embrace the plans You lay before me. Your plans are not to harm me, but to give me hope for my future. I feel the refreshment to my soul already. Your light draws me forward to my eternal destiny. The road before me leads me on.
As I concentrate on You I wonder how I could ever want any other god beside You. This world is so full of distractions. My eyes and heart are enticed to drift from Your presence constantly. Keep my focus on You. Sometimes that will feel painful to me, but do it to remind me of Your love. You need to remain my supreme love and desire. Keep my vision on the narrow road before me.
You have ways of getting my attention when I go overboard with my love for anything that takes Your place as number one in my life. The illness, or death, of one close to me can be such a thing. My life is so hard to keep in proper balance. Keep me humble, workable clay on Your potter's wheel. Mold me into a loving servant You can use mightily for Your kingdom. Give me mercy to carry my load.
It's only because of the awesome sacrifice of Jesus Christ I come before You now. AMEN
