When Doc's birthday rolls around, his yard family wants to gift him something great! Olivia and her rambunctious group of kits ponders what they want to contribute. What will Olivia gift him?

Author Biography

When my first Siamese cat gave birth to six kittens on my bed, my appreciation for differences and the love of cats started. Cats and students have been a big part of my life for fifty years. Creative Writing was among the high school English courses I taught over my forty years in the classroom. I always wrote with my students. It provided me with knowledge of the assignment and led me down my own path of discovery. After retirement I was able to follow my passion of writing for young readers. I enjoy reading my books in elementary school classrooms and talking to my audience. They always provide me with amazing ideas and I have been able to use some of them to create new stories. I live in Colorado with my husband and one senior cat. I also enjoy being an active grandmother.

For the Love of Kids

I love all things kids! I love to watch them create, listen to them, discover with with them. So, I decided a long time ago I wanted to be part of their discovery. I read hundreds of kid books. I volunteered in an elementary school classroom for several years. I spent as much time as I could with early readers. I wanted to write stories for these fascinating kids. This book shows skunk kits trying out a variety of things just as human kids try out a variety of things. All want to be part of the "Big Leagues" so to speak. Try things out. Push the limit. Skunk kits have no control over their spraying. They are practicing here. Skunks are myopic and later they invent skunk soccer. They can't see the ball well, but have fun trying to figure out where it is. Kids invent. They try things out. They are creative. They are fun.

Margie Surprises Doc

Suddenly Smelldan entered the discussion and said, “You know what you need to practice Stinker Bell, the U shape. If you don’t get that down, no target will see your skunk business and your aim will be completely off. Let me give you a quick lesson.”

Smelldan backed up to his sister, bent over into a perfect U shape, tail raised, and bingo! His spray hit her right about the left shoulder.

“Mom, Smelldan sprayed me,” Stinker Bell said.

“Oh boys, I know you are not able to control the spray well at your age, but seriously see if you can work on that. Find something besides your sisters to target,” Margie said.

“Sorry Stinker Bell. That one was an accident. But, the U shape was perfect. Right?” he asked in hopes of some approval.

“It was pretty amazing. I have to admit that. I’ll work on mine,” Stinker Bell said.
