Little Honker's Winter Concert

One day Warren and his girls peeked out the window and noticed the holiday spirit was in the air. Lights were shining outside, houses were decorated, and snow was on the ground. It would soon be time for the school Winter Concert. The girls were excited. Suddenly Kari said, “Kris, we should see if we can bring Warren to the concert. It would be fun.”

“Great idea, Kari. Let’s ask Mom and Dad and Mr. Woody.” Initially, nobody seemed as enthusiastic as Kari and Kris, but they finally convinced their parents and Mr. Woody, their band teacher, that Little Honker would be a great addition to the concert. 

“Mom and Dad, you know how much Warren likes to help us practice,” said Kris.

“He loves music. We think it would make the concert fun,” Kari argued. 

“I’m not so sure,” said Mom. “That would be pretty unusual. I know our Little Honker loves to practice with you both, but taking him to the concert is something completely different.”

“True,” said Dad. “But, he does love music. See if Mr. Woody is OK with it. If he thinks it is OK, then I think you should give it a try. Could be fun!”

“Thanks, Dad.” The girls said at the same time. 

They used the same reasoning with Mr. Woody the next day, but had to explain that Warren was a special cat. 

“He is different than most cats, explained Kari. “I think it would make the concert exciting. We have never had anything like our Little Honker at a concert.”

“Music is in his heart,” Kris said. “He loves to practice with us. Please, Mr. Woody. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by what he can do.”

“This is pretty unusual. Are you sure he can do the things you said he can do?” asked Mr. Woody. 

“Yes!” the girls said at once.

Finally Mr. Woody agreed, but he said “You girls are responsible for him. Make sure he does what you say he can do.”

“We will,” they said. The girls were off to share the great news with Little Honker.

The girls told Little Honker that he was going to help them perform at the concert. He honked excitement, “This will be so much fun,” he honked. “I always like new adventures.”

Warren really had no idea what it would be like to be in a concert, but he loved music and loved his girls. Most of all, he did love new adventures!

However, when it came time to go to the school, the girls got out the cat carrier, also known as the spaceship because it launched kitties into new places,and told Warren he had to get in it. “Come on, Warren, you have to get in this so we can take you to school.”

This time he did not honk excitement, “I don’t like it. Too small. Can’t you carry me?” he honked.
