Synopsis

What could a polydactyl cat add to the Swinging Tails band? Bongos, of course! Jack moves from Key West to Little Honker’s neighborhood and discovers his love of music can continue when the Tails invite him to join their band. The band gives a paw-some dream performance during the Independence Day celebration and then an unusual flare makes this celebration a day never to be forgotten.

Author Biography

When my first Siamese cat gave birth to six kittens on my bed, my appreciation for differences and the love of cats started. Cats and students have been a big part of my life for fifty years. Creative Writing was among the high school English courses I taught over my forty years in the classroom. I always wrote with my students. It provided me with knowledge of the assignment and led me down my own path of discovery. After retirement I was able to follow my passion of writing for young readers. I enjoy reading my books in elementary school classrooms and talking to my audience. They always provide me with amazing ideas and I have been able to use some of them to create new stories. I live in Colorado with my husband and one senior cat. I also enjoy being an active grandmother.

Jack and Frontier Days Rescue

About a year ago this book was launched. I couldn't believe I finally finished it. This story sat uncomfortably in a folder for a long time because I could not figure out what to do. Then I remembered Frontier Days, the free breakfasts, the parades, and concerts, and BINGO. I had a bit of a plan, but needed more. Jack, the polydactyl cat who loved to hang out on our deck and front porch was purrfect! I decided he could play the bongos and needed a hat appropriate for the occasion and another BINGO. I was off and running. After about 10 attempts at a title over the time I worked on this story, I finally and another BINGO. Little Honker's Patriotic Paws was purrfect for the occasion.

Little Honker's Patriotic Paws

It was time to get the band members in their places. Kris and Kari placed the spaceships in the back and let the Tails take their places. “Oh, they have microphones,” Honker said. “That’s purr-fect.”

“What are those?” asked Big Guy.

“They help the sound get to the audience better,” explained Jack. “I remember those from my days in Key West.”

“Thanks, Jack,” Kris said. “Honker, I think you remember the microphones from the Winter Concert.”

“I do remember them. No big deal guys. This will work out well. We want everyone to hear us,” he responded.

“OK Tails,” the girls said. “Take your stations.
