Boxed Memories Create Stories
Boxes of stuff. Memories flood in. Then it happens and you are off running. I've been doing lots of sorting, labeling, and sometimes pitching as I plow through boxes of saves from my dad and from early years of our marriage. One day I found an unexpected treasure when I sorted through old school saves belonging to our youngest daughter. Her short story, Warren the Honking Cat, written while in third grade, gave birth to Little Honker Saves the Day, with her permission of course. Students and our cats helped to create the other four Little Honker stories! Treasures can be found in unexpected places.

Little Honker Saves the Day
“Our first surprise,” Kari said. “This one will not be a typical cat, but I bet this one will be filled with surprises. What should we call this little one?”
“I think if this is a boy, we should call it Warren. If it is a girl, we can call it Wanda after Aunt Wanda,” Kris said.
“I hope it is a boy. We should call him Warren after Uncle Warren,” Kari said. “He has never been the typical uncle and is always fun to be around. Remember when we were little and he used to let us walk on the ceiling? He was so tall and when he picked us up, he’d always flip us so we could put our feet on the ceiling.”
I do remember that. It was so much fun. Sometimes Aunt Beeze would turn on the music and the next thing we knew, Uncle Warren would have us dancing on the ceiling!” said Kris.
