Synopsis

Doc is a veterinarian whose backyard is filled with animal friends, including Margie the myopic, sniffing skunk. One day, a mysterious visitor makes a mess and the animals must find the intruder. Will their adventures lead to more trouble or love at first smell?

Author Biography

When my first Siamese cat gave birth to six kittens on my bed, my appreciation for differences and the love of cats started. Cats and students have been a big part of my life for fifty years. Creative Writing was among the high school English courses I taught over my forty years in the classroom. I always wrote with my students. It provided me with knowledge of the assignment and led me down my own path of discovery. After retirement I was able to follow my passion of writing for young readers. I enjoy reading my books in elementary school classrooms and talking to my audience. They always provide me with amazing ideas and I have been able to use some of them to create new stories. I live in Colorado with my husband and one senior cat. I also enjoy being an active grandmother.

Author Insight

Mother Nature rules

All parts of nature rule my emotions and writing. From a tornado to a blizzard, to a soft breeze to a beautiful sunrise or sunset, weather grabs my emotions. In my recent visit to Hawaii, Mother Nature presented me with an outstanding sunset over the ocean. My grandson was able to capture it in a time lapse to be treasured. All animals in nature grab me too. Sometimes Mother Nature's rules work with me and I'm fond of the outcome. I've written countless poems expressing my thoughts and emotions spirited by HER. She is strong and we continue to attempt understanding all she offers. In this excerpt I use the mystery of darkness and a mysterious noise. A few of Doc's yard family members are trying to figure it all out. It was a failed attempt at this point in the story but solved later.

Glasses for Margie

The noise occurred on the opposite side of Doc’s bedroom. Again it perked the attention of Duchess; she headed straight for the back fence. Right behind her was Jack. The banging and rattling continued until Duchess and Jack made their appearances known. Duchess barked. Then she scratched the fence and stretched her body its complete length so she could see what was on the other side. Jack hopped on her back, then her head, and finally on the fence to see if he could determine what was causing the noise. The duo found nothing. What was that noise? After a final barking, Duchess and Jack left puzzled. Margie decided not to investigate and hid further back under the porch. She felt safe just where she was. Safe was a feeling she liked.
